I used to live close to this Bellaire location in southwest Houston, & it was then a lovely suburb with good shopping, a mostly white population, good schools (in spite of being in Houston Independent Dist). It’s considered a “close in” area, aka, close to downtown.

Here’s another example of an unexplainable shooting of a young black man in a Bart (our commuter train system in the bay area) station. The video taken with a cell phone shows no reason for this Bart officer to shoot & kill this man, & protests are abounding since. The cop resigned, & some speculate he meant to get out his stun gun instead. Here’s the link to the story, & the video link is on it: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/01/05/MN0R153LGU.DTL

Thanks for posting this, Judy; I was looking for the link after I saw the Houston story posted, and I couldn’t find it yesterday. I was horrified when I heard about the shooting on BART.

I think Tasers are a good idea gone way way way bad in too many impetuous hands.

According to this article in the SF paper, the Bart cop was arrested & charged with murder:
