Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are!!

WHERE has Karl Rove disappeared to on the day he was subpeonaed to testify before the House Judiciary Committee?

He says he does not have to testify because he is covered by executive privilege (that of course only applies if the executive is involved and President Bush has said he was not involved AT ALL in firing the AGs). Rove has made it clear he would not appear and now is “out of the country.” Today would be the day they could hold him in contempt for not showing up.

Some say it is a “long-planned vacation” and others call it fleeing the country.

I can’t get anything to embed but when I worked at the DA, our line was always, “a subpeona is not an invitation. It says: you are hereby ordered to appear.”

But if I will say kudos for not showing up and lying. **ducks before my readers pelt me with stuff** Showing up and telling the truth would be my preferred outcome, but showing up and lying is worse.

I say, find out where he is, have him extradited back, and then arrest his ass! Some Republican a-hole on the House Judiciary subcommittee that issued the subpoena tried to insist that everyone *knew* that he was going on vacation but Lorena Sanchez held firm and declared ON CAMERA that neither Rove NOR his attorney had bothered to mention this little detail in all the volumes of correspondence that went back and forth between them in the past several weeks regarding his appearance and his claim to executive immunity . . .

Arresting Rove might create a backlash. Serve him with the subpoena and order him to appear. Then deal directly with his legal challenge to the order to testify. I think the fact that the mainstream press did not see this as fleeing the country suggests that a more measured approach is wiser.

Rep. Linda Sanchez agrees with me:

The title of her piece, originally published on, is:

“Why Karl Rove Should Go To Jail.”

I think the time for “measured approaches” is past.
