McCain on the Ledbetter Bill

    It makes perfect sense if you don’t care about workplace or social inequality. A flood of lawsuits. Sheesh. Equal Pay Act is the least used of any employment civil rights legislation (except the Rehabilitation Act which is largely moot because of the Americans with Disabilities Act) precisely because people cannot find out other people’s pay information.

    “. . . opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems.” Who is the “us” in his formulation? Old white men who have a problem with pay equity? I’m surprised he didn’t take the opportunity to bash trial lawyers, but I guess that’s the subtext.

    We send soldiers to Iraq to right perceived wrongs, but the fear of compensating those wronged is right??? I don’t get it. Where’s the discussion of what’s “right” or “wrong?”
